What does Women’s Day mean to you as a leader in healthcare?
Dr. Doris: Women’s Day is a celebration of resilience, leadership, and the contributions women make in all fields—including medicine. It reminds us of the importance of empowering women in healthcare and advocating for inclusive, compassionate medical care for every individual, especially those often overlooked. I hope to continue inspiring the next generation of women in medicine to take on leadership roles and drive meaningful change.
Can you tell us about your background before joining RCS?
Dr. Doris: Before joining Richmond, I spent 11 years as an attending physician at Blythedale Children’s Hospital, a subacute care facility specializing in inpatient rehabilitation for children with developmental disabilities. My role there focused on medical care, long-term patient support, and educating caregivers on managing their loved ones’ health needs. I’ve also been serving as a general pediatrician for children in foster care in Westchester County for the past 13 years, providing comprehensive medical care alongside a dedicated team of nurses and administrators.

What inspired you to join Richmond Community Services, and when did you become part of the team?
Dr. Doris: I have always been passionate about providing quality medical care to marginalized patient populations, especially individuals with complex medical needs. When I joined Richmond Community Services in December 2022, I was drawn to the organization’s commitment to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and complex health conditions. Being part of a team that prioritizes compassionate, individualized care makes this work incredibly fulfilling, and it led me to my goal of ensuring that every patient—regardless of their circumstances—receives compassionate, individualized care.
What sets Richmond Community Services apart in caring for individuals with developmental disabilities?
Dr. Doris: The passion of the people here. At Richmond, we work as a team to provide medical care and the education, advocacy, and individualized support that individuals with developmental disabilities and their families need. Being part of such a compassionate and dedicated organization has been an honor.
You’ve been a strong advocate for caregivers and medical education. What do you find most rewarding about your role?
Dr. Doris: I love to teach! Whether it’s breaking down complex medical concepts for caregivers and families or providing hands-on training to staff, I find great joy in making medical care more accessible and understandable. Working at Richmond allows me to collaborate with an incredible team to ensure that individuals with developmental disabilities receive the highest quality of care they deserve.
What is your personal philosophy when facing challenges in healthcare?
Dr. Doris: Healthcare, especially for individuals with complex needs—comes with its fair share of challenges. I live by the mantra, “Everything is Figureoutable.” No matter the obstacles, I bring my knowledge, creativity, and teamwork to find solutions. At Richmond, I am grateful to work alongside a passionate group of professionals committed to providing the highest standard of care to the individuals we serve.
