Beyond Lifts: Creating Safer, More Dignified Spaces

At Richmond Community Services (RCS), we believe how we care matters as much as what we do. Many of the people we support are aging, medically fragile, and have complex physical needs. For them, even the simplest daily routines, getting out of bed, taking a shower, or moving into a wheelchair, can be challenging.

That’s why we’re launching an important project: installing nine ceiling lifts in the bedrooms of non-ambulatory residents across our homes.

These overhead systems do more than just assist with lifting; they make life easier and safer for everyone. Our residents are provided a more secure and comfortable way to move from their beds to wheelchairs, shower chairs, or therapy mats. For our staff, they reduce the risk of injury and allow for smoother, more efficient care, especially during the busy morning hours. And because they’re installed overhead, they free up precious space in the room, making it feel less clinical and more like home.

As part of this effort, we’re also updating our bathrooms with lift track systems and high-low shower beds, making care routines safer and more dignified for everyone involved.

Help Us Make It Happen

Each ceiling lift costs around $7,000–$8,000, and our total goal to complete the project is $66,000. Your support can make a real and lasting difference in the everyday lives of our residents and caregivers.
