Your career began as a Direct Care Worker, and you’ve held roles like Loss Prevention Officer, Child Abuse Investigator, and Lead Quality Investigator. How have these diverse experiences prepared you to ensure corporate compliance and quality at Richmond Community Services?

Each role in my professional career has given me valuable skills in hands-on care, safeguarding rights, and leading initiatives that drive change. These experiences have allowed me to see compliance as a regulatory requirement and a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for those we serve. I combine these skills to ensure high standards of care and accountability across the board at Richmond Community Services.

You chose a path in quality enhancement and compliance over a career in law enforcement despite your background in criminal justice. What motivated you to make this choice?

I wanted to make a direct and positive impact on people’s lives in a different way. Working in quality and compliance at Richmond Community Services gives me the chance to influence the well-being and rights of individuals with developmental disabilities, which is deeply fulfilling and aligns with my passion for protecting and uplifting others.

What are some of your main responsibilities as Director of Quality Enhancement at Richmond Community Services, and how do these relate to ensuring compliance?

As the Director of Quality Enhancement, I oversee investigations, audits, electronic health record management, and overall quality of life for those we support. Each of these areas is essential for compliance because it requires attention to detail, a commitment to accuracy, and a focus on ethical standards. By maintaining high standards in these processes, we ensure that we’re meeting regulations and providing the best possible support.

How does your involvement in the Corporate Compliance Network support Richmond Community Services’ commitment to compliance and ethics?

Being part of the Corporate Compliance Network, which includes over 30 professionals across New York, is invaluable. It allows us to share best practices, learn from each other’s experiences, and strengthen accountability within our field. The collaboration with other compliance officers and quality experts helps me bring new ideas and improvements to Richmond Community Services, enhancing our ability to support our community.

What aspects of your role as the Director of Quality Enhancement bring you the most satisfaction?

My favorite part of this role is connecting with our staff and the individuals we support. No two days are the same, and I love finding new ways to assist everyone here at Richmond Community Services. Building meaningful connections with our community and seeing our staff’s dedication daily reminds me of why this work matters. It is rewarding to be seen as a resource people trust and turn to with their questions and concerns.

How does the Quality Department create an environment where staff and individuals feel comfortable approaching you with their questions or concerns?

Our team strives every day to be approachable and supportive. We aim to foster an open, welcoming environment where all employees and individuals feel they can come to us without hesitation. Open work environments are crucial for a culture of compliance as they encourage transparency, trust, and proactive problem-solving.” We want everyone to know that we’re here to help and to ensure that Richmond Community Services remains a safe, supportive space for all.
