National Nonprofit Day honors the vital work of charitable organizations nationwide and reminds us of the power of empathy, generosity, and community action. At Richmond Community Services, we take this day to celebrate our history, beginning in 1938, when nurse Ellen Richmond opened her home in Westchester County to care for infants with developmental disabilities. From that simple act of compassion, we’ve grown into a nonprofit supporting adults with complex needs across the region, always guided by dignity, inclusion, and care.

As we reflect on our legacy, we also look ahead, encouraging everyone to turn compassion into action through volunteering, giving, and advocacy.
