Getting Down to Work

Opportunities for Everyone

Jeff Greenberg, Richmond's Director of Community Habilitation and Vocational Services, is a busy man. "I began working for Richmond Community Services as the Director of Residential Services in March 2019. In June 2022, I was offered the opportunity to transition to oversee our Community-Based Programs. I also have the pleasure of being the advisor to our Self-Advocacy Group, Independent Familia," he says.

Recently, he's been hard at work revitalizing Richmond's support programs for individuals as they navigate through the community. These programs offer a multitude of skill development and learning opportunities and include pre-vocational services, supported employment, and community habilitation.

Pre-vocational services offer a mix of on-the-job training and classwork in order to help individuals gain the skills needed to be as independent as possible while at work. Typical topics covered include interacting with coworkers, multi-tasking, and safety. Under Jeff's tutelage, Richmond also offers supported employment where participants receive job coaching to maintain a competitive, paid job in the community.

In the community habilitation program, individuals work 1-to-1 with a direct support professional to gain as much independence as possible. This can include practice with household tasks, accessing resources and activities in their community, and managing money.

Of course, at the heart of all these programs is a person-centered approach. Supports are not there to meet an agency goal, but rather the individual person's goal. Direct support professionals providing the support truly get to know each person and uncover what their goals, concerns and lifestyle look like, enabling them to design an individualized program. For Jeff, providing top-notch support and getting the word out there about Richmond's opportunities are some of his primary goals. He says, "I look forward to continuing to work hard to expand these programs and provide quality person-centered services."

Individuals and families can check with their care manager to see if they qualify for the services. For any additional questions about the programs contact Jeff Greenberg at:
